Artist Statement:

As I near the 10 year anniversary of my first solo show, I wanted to rethink the imagery I'm creating. In the past I've enjoyed exploring how emotion can translate in a representational form. Now I want to take what I've learned and apply it to a body of work where I can use the vast number of pegs to evoke that emotion and connection in a less direct way.

My new series takes a mathematical approach using the equation here to blend colors inspired by natural and man-made landscapes. To solve the numerical constraints of the medium I’ve developed an algorithm to calculate the relative densities of colors as they gradate from one to another. The larger works utilize over 8,000 dowels to create an ombre effect that allows the viewer to experience a seamless transition.
